How to calculate your grade from points
Enter the points earned and total possible for each assignment. Optional names help you keep track of your work. Use only graded assignments; an ungraded assignment is different from a score of zero.
For example, 45 out of 50 on homework and 80 out of 100 on an exam gives 125 out of 150 points: 83.33% (B). Averaging the two assignment percentages would give a different result, because the assignments have different point totals.
Extra credit and category weights
Earned points can exceed possible points for extra credit. Possible points must be greater than zero. If your syllabus uses category weights, use the Weighted Grade Calculator instead. To plan an upcoming final, try the Final Grade Calculator.
How letter grades work here
We use a simple U.S. reference scale without plus or minus grades. Your school may use different cutoffs. Letter grades use the unrounded percentage; displayed results are rounded to two decimal places.
| Letter | Percentage |
|---|---|
| A | 90% and above |
| B | 80% to below 90% |
| C | 70% to below 80% |
| D | 60% to below 70% |
| F | Below 60% |
